ABOUT
THE FOUNDER

Promoting nature protection in the broadest sense of the term was the aim which inspired Dr. Luc Hoffmann to establish the MAVA Foundation in 1994.

Who is Luc Hoffmann?

Luc Hoffmann (Doctor of Zoology) has devoted the greater part of his life, his fortune and his attention to the cause of nature. His achievements are tangible and significant. At the young age of 25, he founded the Tour du Valat in southern France - today this biological research institute is reknowned throughout Europe and indeed, the world. Along with fellow researchers at the Tour du Valat, he conducted the first studies of waterbird populations and wetland ecology. The International Convention on Wetlands - known as the Ramsar Convention-, the International Waterfowl Research Bureau (BIROE), IUCN, the WWF and Wetlands International are some of the nature conservation organizations to which he has devoted his energy, playing a key role either in their creation or in sustaining and consolidating them.

His struggle goes on today: he continues to travel the world tirelessly, offering his support and experience wherever they are needed.
